China Oct coal exports 2.56 mln tons, down 51 pct yr-on-yr - customs
November 11th, 2008 - Posted in Coal EnergyBEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China exported 2.56 mln tons of coal in October, down 51 pct from a year earlier, the General Administration of Customs said.
The drop is due to tighter coal export quotas as well as weaker international coal prices, it said.
Coal miners have nearly used up the first series of export quota totaling 31.8 mln tons, but the second quota series is only for 15.9 mln, approved in early November.
Coal exports in the first 10 months fell 11.5 pct year-on-year to 38.28 mln tons, customs said.
Coke exports dropped 12 pct to 11.58 mln tons during the 10 months, while exports in October stood at 530,000 tons, down from 1.42 mln tons a year earlier.
