Chinese oil worker found in Sudan
November 1st, 2008 - Posted in UncategorizedSudanese authorities say they have found one of two missing Chinese oil workers from a group of nine kidnapped in South Kordofan state 13 days ago.
The Chinese ambassador to Sudan said the worker was alive and in an “acceptable condition”.
Four workers were killed in a rescue attempt on Monday, while three others escaped injured.
China is a key buyer of Sudanese oil and has been investing heavily in the country’s oil infrastructure.
China’s embassy in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, was quoted as saying it would continue to co-operate with Sudanese authorities to find the last worker.
Sudan has blamed the kidnappings on the Justice and Equality Movement (Jem), a Darfur rebel organisation.
Jem says it has forces in the area but was not involved in seizing the Chinese.
It is the third time in the last year that oil workers have been abducted in the energy-rich region.
