Total SA said Monday that it made a significant gas and condensate discovery in Block B off the coast of Brunei.
The French oil and gas company operates the block with a 37.5 percent interest in association with Shell Deepwater Borneo Ltd. and local partners.
Total said the ML-4 well discovered a new gas-bearing compartment in the Maharaja Lela/Jamalulalam Field.

A gas column was encountered in reservoirs equivalent to those already in production in the field. Gas was also found in deeper, high-temperature/high-pressure formations, the company said.
Further appraisal will be needed to evaluate the discoveries. The ML-4 well completes the first phase of an exploration drilling program that will resume next year, Total said.
Total’s U.S.-traded shares fell 64 cents to $54.80 in morning trading.
